Akal Takht sentenced Sukhbir Singh Badal

Amritsar, December 2: During a meeting of five Singh Sahibs (respected Sikh leaders) at Sri Akal Takht Sahib today, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal was given a strict punishment. During the Akali Dal government’s tenure, Sukhbir Singh Badal was declared a “tankhahiya” (excommunicated) for incidents of disrespect to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Today, he was sentenced.

In the decisions taken during the meeting of five Singh Sahibs, Sukhbir Singh Badal was given a 10-day punishment. From December 3, daily from 12 midnight to 1 AM, he will clean toilets. After this, following his bath, he will spend one hour cleaning utensils in the langar hall. After cleaning utensils, he will listen to kirtan (devotional music) for one hour. Subsequently, he will sit on a wheelchair near the Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) of Sri Darbar Sahib, holding a spear, serving as a visible sevadar (volunteer).

Since Sukhbir Singh Badal has a leg fracture, he cannot stand. While serving as a visible sevadar, he will wear the sevadar’s uniform. Afterwards, he will listen to kirtan and recite Sukhmani Sahib. Throughout this entire service, a board will be hung around his neck.

The Singh Sahibs ordered that Sukhbir Singh Badal will serve for two days at Sri Harmandir Sahib, and then two days each at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Damdama Sahib, Sri Muktsaar Sahib, and finally two days at Fatehgarh Sahib.

Today at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, in addition to Sukhbir Singh Badal, other Akali leaders who were ministers and held various positions were also present. All the leaders sought forgiveness at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and the Singh Sahibs sentenced everyone. Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, announced the punishment for Sukhbir Singh Badal.
