Chandigarh, 8 November: The Punjab State Election Commission has today announced the elections for municipal corporations and municipal councils in Punjab. These elections will be held on December 21st, and vote counting will take place in the evening after polling. From today, the election code of conduct has been implemented in Punjab.
The Election Commission has announced that elections will be held for 5 municipal corporations and 43 municipal councils on December 21st. Voting will take place from 7 AM to 4 PM. The five municipal corporations include Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Fazilka. The remaining cities will have municipal councils.
The process of filing nomination papers will begin from Monday. The last date for filing nominations is set for December 12th. Nomination scrutiny will be conducted on December 13th, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is December 14th.
Previously, the Principal Secretary of the Local Governments Department had issued a notification to conduct elections in the last week of December, but the voting dates were not announced. Today, both the voting dates and the election code of conduct have been implemented.
