Faridkot, April 25: A sudden fire broke out today in the forest adjacent to the airstrip of the Faridkot princely state, which is located next to the military cantonment here. A large number of trees and birds were engulfed in the blaze.
After the fire started at around 3:30 PM this evening, officers from the nearby military cantonment immediately swung into action and contacted fire brigades from the surrounding area, eventually bringing the fire under control with great difficulty.
According to information received, there are forests spread over many acres of land adjacent to the airstrip of the Faridkot princely state — right next to the cantonment — which is property belonging to the Faridkot royal estate. As soon as the cantonment officers were informed of the fire, which broke out amid a sudden surge in heat today, the army was immediately mobilized and the fire was brought under control with the assistance of the fire brigade.
The fire completely reduced trees across approximately 5–6 acres of land to ash. Faridkot Police also reached the scene, however the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
