Eye donation fortnight celebrated in Guru Gobind Singh Medical College

Eye donation fortnight ( 25 august – 8 September) was celebrated in Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Faridkot. Dr Rajeev Sharma (Principal) said that in today’s era we should make eye donation a ritual to be followed in families. Dr Shilekh Mittal (Medical Superintendent) said that where eye donation provides recognition to one’s family on the other hand it brings light in the house of the recipient. Principal (University College of Nursing) said that eye donation is the biggest and most noble work one can do in his life.
A rally was organised to improve Eye donation awareness from the eye ward to OPD premises. In rally students sang the slogans for eye donation. A poster making competition between the students of nursing college was also organised. Health talk and nukkad natak (role play) also took place at the entrance of OPD. Pamphlets were distributed to general public. The attending persons took pledge to donate their eyes and patients and their attendants said that this occasion was an eye opener for them as they were having many misconceptions regarding eye donation before this. They also promised that they will also motivate their near and dear ones to donate their eyes. The occasion was organised by the collaboration of UCON and Eye department, GGSMCH, Faridkot.
Public awareness on eye donation – it’s related myths and controversies were addressed. “There is a huge gap between number of eye donations and treatable corneal blindness. We all must chip in and contribute to the cause whole heartedly” said Dr Munish Dhawan, HOD, Eye department, GGSMCH, Faridkot.
