Patiala : Basking in the love of `Patialvis’, Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder on Sunday took his battle for Punjab to his home town of Patiala, from where he is also contesting, with a strong appeal to voters to strengthen his hands in his fight for their and their children’s future by battling the dangers posed to the state by the Badals and Arvind Kejriwal.

The Congress chief ministerial candidate vowed not to allow the Badals to get away with any `goondagardi’ to disrupt the polls, while urging the Election Commission to ensure that Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also does not cause any problems with the thousands of volunteers brought in from other states, such as U.P and Bihar, to manage its poll campaign. He requested the EC to order the removal of all such outsiders brought in from neighbouring states to ensure free and fair polls in Punjab.

Addressing a late evening public meeting in Patiala Urban assembly segment, Captain Amarinder slammed both the Akali and the AAP leadership for the threat they posed to the state, warning the people not to be taken in by their false promises.

Promising revival of development in Punjab, Captain Amarinder, with wife and MLA Preneet Kaur by his side, flayed the Badal government for bringing to a standstill all development work in Patiala and Amritsar, which he represented as MP, out of sheer vengeance. He recalled that he had set up the Patiala Development Authority, with a corpus of Rs. 300 crore at the time of leaving the state government, and also the Amritsar Development Authority, which had funds to the tune of Rs 2700 crore, during his tenure. The Badal government, however, diverted all these funds to their personal coffers, said the PPCC chief.

Citing the list of Kejriwal’s broken promises in Delhi, Captain Amarinder asserted that AAP, with its threatening mix of extreme ideologies, was another example of poor governance and corruption. As many as 19 of AAP MLAs in Delhi were behind bars on charges of corruption and rape, he pointed out, adding that with its bunch of outsiders and its total lack of experience in good governance, the party could not bring Punjab’s progress back on track.

Elaborating further on the failures of the Akali government of the past 10 years, Captain Amarinder said the state was in complete ruin, with industries fleeing and mafias ruling the roost, as was evident from the Nabha jail break incident. He reiterated his promise of punishing all those found guilty of involvement of any kind in the recent incidents of sacrilege in the state. “I will not spare anyone, even if it’s Badal himself who is found to be responsible,” vowed Captain Amarinder.

The government exchequer did not have sufficient money to pay salaries and properties were being sold and mortgaged to make essential payments, he further lamented, adding that nowhere had he seen any government being run like this.

The youth of the state were suffering due to unemployment and the drugs menace, said Captain Amarinder, promising to wipe drugs from the state’s fabric within four weeks of taking over as chief minister. He blamed Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for the drug racket, being run by none other than his minister and kin Bikram Singh Majitha, and vowed to throw all the guilty in jail on coming to power.

Even the halqa in-charges were looting the people of Punjab at the behest of the Badals, who were not interested at all in the welfare of the state, said Captain Amarinder.

Earlier, addressing the crowd, Preneet stressed that “we cannot gamble with the future of our children, and have to vote for them and the future of Punjab.”
